In this post, I’ll outline the process that I use as a current StoryBrand Certified Guide to write/rewrite my client’s websites. I’ll also discuss how much you can expect to pay. But first, here are some things to keep in mind if you’re thinking about hiring a StoryBrand Guide for your homepage rewrite (from someone who has been a StoryBrand Guide since February 2022):
- Many people who were StoryBrand Guides still claim to be (so, to check if they’re up-to-date on their certification, search for them by name on StoryBrand’s database here.
- Every StoryBrand Guide has his or her own ways of doing things.
My process
Note: This process specifically refers to applying the StoryBrand framework to a client’s homepage. Create a brand messaging framework: This lays the foundation for the words on your homepage.
- Once we decide to work together, I will create the first draft of your BrandScript and Brand Message Script (i.e., an internal brand messaging script) based on the StoryBrand framework).
- I will use your existing marketing materials to create this draft in Google Docs. If you don’t have marketing materials, I will create this draft based on our conversation(s).
- The BrandScript and Brand Message Script give you a framework to use when writing future promotional content.
- This process takes one week.
- Once the first draft is complete, I will meet with you and your team over Zoom to discuss any changes you would like me to make. These meetings typically last between 30-60 min. You and your team will also be able to leave comments throughout the document.
- If a second draft is necessary, we will meet over Zoom one week later. By that time, I will have made any changes to the first draft.
- Adjustments will continue until you are satisfied. We will have weekly meetings over Zoom to discuss any changes.
Create a website that works
- Once you review and approve the completed internal brand messaging script (i.e., the BrandScript and Brand Message Script), I will send you a PDF document with that information.
- I will then use that information to write the words for your homepage, so that your website’s visitors know exactly what you do and what you want them to do. This process takes one week.
- Your homepage will also be structured according to the proven StoryBrand framework.
- You will receive a Google Slides presentation that shows my proposed words/structure for your homepage.
- Once the first draft is complete, I can meet with you and your team over Zoom to discuss any changes you would like me to make. You and your team will also be able to leave comments throughout the Google Slides document.
- Adjustments will continue until you are satisfied. We will have weekly meetings over Zoom to discuss any changes.
- Once you approve the final draft, you will receive the Google Slides presentation.
- This presentation will include the finalized structure and words for your homepage. Your web developer can plug the content of these slides into your homepage, ensuring it adheres to your brand’s visual guidelines.
How long does it take?
For most of my clients, this happens over the course of a month with four weekly, 30-60 min. meetings. I can, however, do this in as little as five days, with four meetings interspersed throughout the week. Again, this includes a BrandScript, Brand Message Script, and the homepage text/structure.
Can I do it in a day?
Yes, if you just want a BrandScript and Brand Message Script. But since most of my clients also want the text/structure for their homepage, I find it’s better to let the text sit overnight before we make final decisions. Oftentimes, my clients will want to change aspects of their messaging after having thought about earlier drafts we created.
So, how much does it cost?
Expect to pay at least $2,500 for these services. Most guides charge more than that. It could be a red flag that someone isn’t a current guide or is inexperienced in the framework if he or she is charging you less than $2,500. Often, when hiring a StoryBrand Guide for your homepage rewrite, you will get the words/structure for your homepage along with the BrandScript and Brand Messaging Script.
